April 16, 2003 Participating arts organizations include the Frank Lloyd Wright Robie House, the premier example of Wright’s signature Prairie Style, where the University of Chicago Press, one of Chicago’s largest publishers, will host Blair Kamin, architecture critic for the Chicago Tribune, to autograph paperback copies of his book Why Architecture Matters; the David and Alfred Smart Museum, one of the country's leading university art museums; the University of Chicago's Renaissance Society museum, the country’s oldest contemporary art society; the Chicago Storytellers Guild; the Oriental Institute Museum, home to one of the finest collections of ancient Near Eastern art in the world.
Visitors can also tour the Project Exploration dinosaur lab, and participate in workshops to cast fossil molds and learn scientific drawing. Calligraphy workshops and dance recitals featuring the Hyde Park School of Ballet and Muntu Dance Company at the Hyde Park Neighborhood Club.
For history buffs, there will be self-guided historic tours of Hyde Park; a discussion of Lorado Taft and the Fountain of Time at the Midway Studios, and a self-guided tour of the stained glass windows at the Hyde Park Union Church
Individuals of all ages from throughout the Chicagoland region are expected to attend the Festival and go away with renewed conviction that Hyde Park and environs are happening places to be for artistic, cultural, and social activities. Come join the fun!
