57th Street Art Fair
A showcase for the visual arts, the 57th Street Art Fair exhibits the work of more than 300 artists from throughout the United States and Canada in mediums including painting, sculpture, photography, and ceramics.

    Augustana Lutheran Church
    Open house Saturday, 10am-2pm: tour of church and grounds--designed by Edward Dart. Art collection includes a sculpture by Egon Weiner. Sunday at 4pm Organ Recital and Hymn Sing: Daniel Schwandt, Director of Music Ministry will both play the organ and lead congregational singing.

    Calvert House

    Chicago Storytelling Guild
    On Sunday from 1 to 4 pm, hear the anecdotes of the ancients: storytelling at the Oriental Institute! The Chicago Storytelling Guild tells the oldest of tales that fit the Institute's collection dating from 3000 B.C. to 1000 A.D.

    Frank Lloyd Wright's Robie House
    This masterpiece of Frank Lloyd Wright's Prairie style is internationally renowned as the cornerstone of modern architecture. Guided tours offer an interior look at the revolutionary space, as well as the ongoing restoration. $9/ adults; $7/ youth (7-18) & seniors (65+). Tours every half-hour from 11 am to 3:30 pm.

    Hyde Park Art Center
    The Hyde Park Art Center is a nonprofit visual arts school and exhibition space that has served Hyde Park-Kenwood and Chicagoland since 1939. Admission is free. The Gallery is open Sat. from 12 noon to 5 pm. The Art Center will also sponsor a booth with free craft activities at the Ray School.

    Oriental Institute Museum
    On Sat., from 10 am to 4 pm enjoy free tours of the Oriental Institute's Egyptian, Mesopotamian, and Persian Galleries and screenings of outstanding documentary films on the ancient Near East. On Sunday, from 12 noon to 4 pm, join us for a free festival of fun for the entire family featuring tours, movies, treasure hunts, and storytelling by the Chicago Storytelling Guild.

    Lorado Taft Lecture and Walk
    On Sunday at 3 pm, hear a lecture about Lorado Taft and the Midway Studios in the actual building used by Taft, now a national and Chicago landmark. Sculptor Herbert George, associate professor on the Committee of Visual Arts and The College, will present the talk, concluding with a walk to Taft's nearby masterpeice, the Fountain of Time.

    Renaissance Society
    Focusing on the forefront of the visual arts, The Renaissance Society maintains an international reputation as one of the finest resources for contemporary art.     The following activities and the Arts Fest headquarters table will be at the Smart Museum, 5550 S. Greenwood Avenue.

      David and Alfred Smart Museum of Art
      On Saturday at 1 pm Smart Museum Curator Richard A. Born will discuss the exchange between eastern and western designers of the early 20th century, including work from Frank Lloyd Wright's Imperial Hotel in Tokyo. At 2:45 pm, following the tour, Wright's Robie House will offer a related tour discussing Japanese influence on the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright. On Sunday at 1 pm, tour of the exhibition "Uses of Art in Renaissance Italy." Museum hours: 11 am - 5 pm.

      Chinese Calligraphy Club

      The Life and Work of Lorado Taft
      Sculptor Lorado Taft (1860-1936) operated for most of his career on campus at Midway Studios. The statuary for his nearby Fountain of Time recently received a restoration. The Basin Restoration Committee offers and exhibit about Taft's life and work with craft activities and a free guide to sculpture on the Midway.

    Silk Road Theatre Project's Precious Stones
    In this play by Jamil Khoury, two women, one Jewish, the other Palestinian, join forces to organize an Arab-Jewish dialogue group, only to find themselves falling in love.     Special Collections Research Center, University of Chicago Library
    Son Saturday from 9 am to 3 pm guided viewing of the exhibition "Life of the Spirit, Life of the Mind: Rockefeller Memorial Chapel at 75." Drawing on photographs and other documents from the University of Chicago archives, the exhibition explores the complex architectural and social history of one of the most striking buildings on campus.
